Montreal cat rescue organization

We have always valued the well being of the animal above everything else.

Refuge Kitty-Kat rescue is a registered charity organization founded in 2014. We rescue cats from high kill pounds, strays, abandons and cover more vet care than most organizations. We are a foster based rescue; we do not mix cats, nor do we keep them in cages. Our cats stay in their foster home until they are fully vetted and ready for adoption.

Our goal is to find the perfect match for each cat. We take pride in the quality of our work over quantity. It isn’t a race to get all cats adopted quickly. We concentrate on each cat’s particular needs and educate people on how to keep their pet safe and give them proper nutrition and care. Adopters appreciate our process as they feel supported. We are always there to answer their questions or concerns.

Prioritizing a stress-free adoption experience.

Our adoption process is like a real adoption and comes with a contract that’s been prepared by a lawyer. We do screenings, home checks, and make sure the cat gets along with the people interested in them. We bring the cat ourselves on their adoption day and get them settled. Everything is done to make the experience as stress free as possible and reduce the risks of health hazards. We also have a follow up after-adoption visit. Happy adopters, happy cat!

Vaccinations, sterilization, and support for our cats.

Each of our cats get vaccinated and dewormed, receive flea treatment, are sterilized, micro-chipped, and tested for feline aids and leukemia. Some come to us sick, needing surgery or hospitalization. We provide our fosters with all necessary medications, along with food, litter and equipment. The costs quickly add up.

We rely on donations, fundraising, and volunteers to fulfill our mission.

We do not receive any funding/grants; we rely solely on donations and fundraising events and the hard work of our volunteers. Without help we simply cannot continue our mission to save abandoned cats and safely put them in a forever home. We provide tax receipts for people and companies that donate.

THANK YOU for supporting us!

Our journey into rescue - Inspired by Kitkat.

From fostering to founding a rescue.

I got started in the rescue world by fostering for another organisation. I kept seeing ‘foster needed’ posts on facebook, and since I was home bound after a surgery, I decided I could use this time for good. The first cat I got was a kitten named Kitkat. Though I tried to change her name, she would not have it. Kitkat and I became so bonded that it was clear she had no intention of leaving me ever. She was already ‘home’. When that rescue stopped operating, and as a lot of people knew I was involved in the rescue world, I started my own at a very small scale, that grew faster than I could realize. Life threw me a curve, and I followed the wave. FUN FACT! Our rescue is a play on my cat Kitkat’s name, in her honor. Today Kitkat (aka pretty girl) is 15 years old.

Animal rescues strangled by rising costs.

Not receiving any subsidies, the Kitty-Kat Rescue regularly conducts fundraising campaigns to save these cats. Adoptions, at $350, help offset expenses. But costs have jumped in the last year, so much so that the organization operates at a loss. Read the full interview with the founder of Refuge Kitty-Kat Rescue on Le Devoir.
